Supported Browsers

The eRez application is an advanced Web application that uses the latest Web technology. In order to get full use from the application and to see pages displayed properly you should use a recent browser that supports HTML 4.0. eRez uses advanced JavaScript for navigation. Recommended browsers include Internet Explorer 5 or higher, Safari 1.1 or higher, Netscape 6 or higher as well as other Gecko based browsers such as Mozilla. One of the reasons for targeting advanced browsers is to provide a better interface and to build pages that meet World Wide Web Consortium standards. In order to keep track of your session you must have session-based Cookies enabled on your browser.
If you plan to use the Flash based FSI Viewer you need the Macromedia Flash Player version 6 or later

Log in to eRez

The lowest access level in eRez is the anonymous user. If you omit typing a name you login as an anonymous user. What you can do as an anonymous user depends on what the server administrator allows you - usually not that much.

Leave name blank to log in as guest.

To login as a named user eRez requires a user name and a password. The user name and password is assigned to you by the administrator of the eRez system you want to log in to. Please notice that different security levels can be assigned to individual user names, allowing users different access and editing rights.
Check the "Use Flash" checkbox to enable the FSI Viewer and FSI Showcase. If you have not obtained an FSI Viewer license the viewer will run in evaluation mode.
You are also offered the possibility of choosing the language of the eRez browser. eRez automatically looks up the language settings of your browser and determines if your preferred language is among the languages eRez supports. If it is, it suggests your preferred language to you. If your preferred language is not available, eRez looks up your other language preferences, and if they are also unavailable it suggests English. However, you may also choose a language from the dropdown box when you log in.
Please contact your server administrator if you want your access rights changed.
eRez can be set-up to allow all or part of the eRez folders accessible without Log in. Folders accessible to all do not require any login.
If you are an administrator running on an eRez ASP version, you might want to taylor to add a &configuration=[sub-configuration name] to the URL you give to your users, as this will allow them to log in to the particular configuration.
Log In. If you are not logged into eRez, click on this button in the top right corner to Login. Log in requires a user name and a password. With a Log in you gain access to the shared folders in eRez accessible by your user name. What you will typically see when logged in is that the list of folders in the Tree view expands with additional folders accessible to your user name.

Log Out. Log out. To log out, click on this button in the top right corner.

The eRez Browser

Tree View

The folder tree gives you a hierarchical view of the folders accessible to you in the eRez browser. Click on individual folder names to display their content in the Content frame .
With eRez 5 there is now both a Flash based Tree View and an Ajax based Tree view. In the following we will describe the Ajax based Tree View, however the Flash based tree view is very similar.
Reloads the list and collapses the tree
This Server is the top level of the tree and will show the name of your eRez server
Expands a level in the tree
Expands the level in the tree and updates the Content frame
Contracts the level in the tree
Updates the Content frame

Content frame

The content frame displays images and subfolders in the current folder you are viewing, the result of a search, a list of files ready for download or the images you have selected.
What you view in the content frame depends on the mode of your navigator .
When displaying a folder in eRez you are viewing small thumbnails of the images available in that folder. You can change the layout of the content frame - the number of images displayed on a page – by adjusting the size of thumbnails in the lower right corner. If you resize your browser window the number of thumbnails in the content frame will also change.

Scrolling through pages

eRez shows the images in a given folder as pages. The number of pages displayed depends on the amount of images and folders as well as the layout selected. In the example below, page 8 is viewed, and there are a total of 14 pages. You can scroll back and forth between pages by clicking on the and buttons, or by selecting a specific page to view. The number of the current page viewed is displayed in bold.

List parent folder

To move up one level in the tree hierarchy click on the List parent folder. Both the content frame and content info is updated.

Selecting and viewing individual images

Move your mouse over a thumbnail in the content frame and eRez makes a slight zoom into the image. This feature makes it obvious what image you are currently viewing. If you keep the mouse over the same image for a few seconds, a larger version is also displayed in the content info frame.
If you check an image from the list it is added to your selections.
Great tip: If you hold down your SHIFT key and click on the box beneath the thumbnail you automatically selects ALL images in that folder. If you want to deselect all images hold down your SHIFT key again and click on the . For more information on selections, please go to The selection tab .

If you click on an image you will be able to see the image and all the information available about that image in the whole content frame.
In this example we are viewing an image from a desert. If you would like to see more details in the sand, you can click anywhere in the image to zoom into it.
Hint: If you want to view the image in the whole content frame – without all the image information - please click on "view" icon in the navigator top.
If you are running on a FSI Viewer supported eRez Server you will see the image in the FSI Viewer. Please refer to the FSI Viewer section for information about navigating in the FSI Viewer.
If you don't have FSI viewer enabled, you can reload the image click on the button underneath the image.
Click on the in the top left corner of the content frame to return to the list of thumbnails.

Clipping path info - if available - can be seen underneath the image.

A camera or a scanner stores information about an image. eRez extracts this information from the image and displays it to you when you are viewing the image. Some information, such as File: Preview: and Image: will always be there. Depending on information stored within the image, other types of information will also be displayed. Such information can be IPTC as described later or EXIF data. EXIF stands for Exchangeable Image File Format, and is a standard for storing interchange information in image files, especially those using JPEG compression. Most digital cameras now use the EXIF format.
If you want to know more about the information stored in images, please see the section on Edit Image Information .

Content Info frame

The content info frame displays information about folders or images depending on what is currently selected. If a folder is selected, eRez can display certain types of information or even an image to symbolize the folder. Typically eRez displays the name of the selected folder or associated notes .
If you place your mouse over an image, eRez will display a preview of that image after a few seconds delay. You can zoom into such a preview, exactly the same way you can when viewing an individual image. This can be quite handy for quickly browsing through images and perhaps looking for special details in an image.

Searching

You can search for images by entering one or more words in the search field and click on search. Searching refreshes the content frame, and displays the matching images sorted by relevance. The search engine within the eRez Server searches inside all image information and meta information. The eRez Server can even be configured for searches inside PDF documents. Special plug-ins can be developed for the eRez Server that allows users to search inside other types of documents. This however is special configuration and developments that varies from eRez server to eRez server.
The searches done by the eRez Server are very similar to the way search engines like Google or Yahoo searches for and displays results.

Advanced Searching

Like most of the advanced search engines you encounter on the Internet, the eRez Server also enables advanced searching capable of qualifying your search and results.
The words that you enter in the search field are called a "query". A query is broken up into terms and operators.
A term can be of two different types: Single Terms and Phrases.
- Single Terms is a single word such as "marketing" or "product".
marketing
ETTV1093

- Single Terms is a single word such as "marketing" or "product".
"please note"
ETTV1093
You can combine multiple terms with Boolean operators to form a more complex query. A Boolean operator is a logical operator that tells the eRez Servers search engine how terms and phrases should be combined to a more complex query. Boolean operators must be ALL CAPS (capital letters).
OR The OR operator is the default conjunction operator. This means that if there is no Boolean operator between two terms, the OR operator is used. The OR operator links two terms and finds a matching document if either of the terms exist in a document. This is equivalent to a union using sets. The symbol || can be used in place of the word OR.
To search for documents that contain either "red flower" or just "carrot" use the query:
"red flower" carrot
ETTV1093
or
"red car" OR carrot
ETTV1093
AND The AND operator matches documents where both terms exist anywhere in the text of a single document. This is equivalent to an intersection using sets. The symbol && can be used in place of the word AND.
To search for documents that contain "red car" and "green car" use the query:
"red car" AND "green car"
ETTV1093
+ The "+" or required operator requires that the term after the "+" symbol exist somewhere in a the field of a single document.
To search for documents that must contain "tomato" and may contain "green" use the query:
+tomato green
ETTV1093
NOT The NOT operator excludes documents that contain the term after NOT. This is equivalent to a difference using sets. The symbol ! can be used in place of the word NOT.
To search for documents that contain "red car" but not "red carrot" use the query:
"red car" NOT "red carrot"
ETTV1093
- The "-" or prohibit operator excludes documents that contain the term after the "-" symbol.
To search for documents that contain "red car" but not "red carrot" use the query:
"red car" -"red carrot"
ETTV1093
GroupingYou can use parentheses to group clauses to form sub queries. This can be very useful if you want to control the boolean logic for a query.
To search for either "red" or "car" and "website" use the query:
(red OR car) AND website
ETTV1093
This eliminates any confusion and makes sure you that website must exist and either term red or car may exist.

It is also possible to qualify your search even more

Wildcard SearchesThe term "wild card" originates from the card game of poker, where a card such as the Joker may by agreement represent any other card in the pack. A wildcard search uses a special symbol to allow you to search simultaneously for several words with the same term.
You can use both single and multiple character wildcard searches.
? To perform a single character wildcard search use the "?" symbol. It looks for terms that match that with the single character replaced.
te?t
ETTV1093
Searches for both "text" and "test".
* To perform a multiple character wildcard search use the asterix "*" symbol.
a*d
ETTV1093
Will find results such as "badger", "around" and "bandstand".
Please note that the search engine doesn't allow you to start with "*". You can't search for *ing".
Fuzzy Searches ~To do a fuzzy search use the tilde, "~", symbol at the end of a single word term. It finds spelling that is similar to the search term.

roam~
ETTV1093
Will find terms like "foam" and "roams".
Proximity Searches ~Finding words are a within a specific distance away is also supported. To do a proximity search use the tilde, "~", symbol at the end of a Phrase.

" european bison"~10
ETTV1093
This search will find a "bison" and "european" within 10 words of each other.
Boosting a Term ^The search engine provides the relevance level of matching documents based on the terms found. To boost a term use the caret, "^", symbol with a boost factor (a number) at the end of the term you are searching. The higher the boost factor, the more relevant the term will be.

Boosting allows you to control the relevance of a document by boosting its term. For example, if you are searching for
bison european
ETTV1093
and you want the term "bison" to be more relevant boost it using the ^ symbol along with the boost factor next to the term. You would type:

bison ^4 european
ETTV1093
Which will make images with the term bison appear more relevant?
You can also boost phrase terms:

" red car" ^4 " green car"
ETTV1093
By default, the boost factor is 1. Although the boost factor must be positive, it can be less than 1 (e.g. 0.2)
Escaping Special Characters
\
You can escape special characters that are part of the query syntax. The current list special characters are + - && || ! ( ) { } [ ] ^ " ~ * ? : \
To escape these character use the \ before the character. For example to search for (1+1):2 use the query:
\/1\+1)\:2

Navigator - actions in eRez

Navigator mode

The tabs on the Navigator bar at the top of the eRez browser displays different sets of actions.
Show File list "List" tab displays the "File List", that is either the content of the last folder or a search result you viewed. If you click on a folder in the navigation tree the tab displayed will automatically be reset to "List".
Show Individual File The "File" tab remembers the last individual file you either viewed or edited. If you are viewing or editing a file the tab displayed will be the "File" tab.
Show Selected Files The "Selected files" tab displays files you’ve selected by checking them . You can consider the images in selected files tab as a kind of "on-the-fly" folder, containing files you want to work with in some way. However, the files in the selection need not be "lost" when you log off. For more information please see selected files functions
Each tab also enables different functions. Whether a function is enabled or disabled depends on your previous actions and the privileges awarded you by the eRez server administrator.

The List tab - List files functions

When you are viewing the contents of folder eRez displays the List Navigator tab. Some of the functions found here are identical to what you find in the other tabs – however when in the List tab remember you are working at folder level. If you click on the List tab, you get the last folder viewed in the content frame.

The File tab - Individual file functions

The File tab concerns functions dealing with individual files, be they images or other file types such as Microsoft Word documents, PDF-files etc. If you click on the File tab you will automatically get the last file viewed in the content frame.

The selection tab - Selected files functions

The selection tab is a very special tool. When you are browsing through files on the eRez server you can mark individual files for selection by checking them underneath their thumbnails in the checkbox ( ). Files you have selected can be viewed in the selection tab.
If you hold down your SHIFT key and click on the box beneath the thumbnail you automatically selects ALL images in that folder. If you want to deselect all images hold down your SHIFT key again and click on the . When you are viewing files in your selection you can therefore deselect them all this way.
Your selection of files can be considered as a kind of “on-the-fly” folder, where you collect all the files you want to do something with.
When you log off the selection is reset, however it need not be lost! A selection is actually saved on the eRez server with a special number. This means that it can be retrieved from the server again. One example of how access a selection is to send an email with a link to Selected Files. Another is to Publish Selection to Web . The html code you generate will retrieve the selection when you call that code.
As the selection behaves like a folder, many of the functions are similar to what you find in the List tab.
Hint for the very advanced user: In the html code generated when you publish to web the name of the query is stored as an item in the URL you call eRez with to retrieve your selection. This name can be extracted from the html code. Depending on whether you published as a slideshow, a FSI showcase etc. the keyname is called something with “query=”. The item after the key starting with a ~ and a long name is actually the name of the selection. Examples:
If you extract the ~a5e165514b9b0284de5b0f7dd3a2f82d you can later search for the selection with that name with the search function.

Start Slideshow

Start Slideshow. eRez offers you a very practical way of browsing through images in a folder or a selection - and in a format that makes viewing and evaluating images a breeze. The Slideshow runs through all images in a folder or a selection and displays them for roughly 10 seconds and then fade in the next image.

Slideshow without flash viewer

The content info frame also changes and displays some very handy slideshow navigation buttons. The left button takes you back to the previous image, the middle button pauses the slideshow and the right button forwards you to the next image.
To view the slideshow in full screen mode, just click on the current image displayed in the slideshow. To return from full screen mode to the eRez browser, again just click on the image.
If you want to return to viewing folder content, click on the List tab .

Slideshow with flash viewer

If you are running on an eRez system with flash enabled you will have slideshow navigation buttons within the slideshow. Move your mouse onto the upper left corner of the image being viewed, and the navigation bar appears.

Restarts the slideshow from the first image

Takes you on image back in the slideshow

Pauses the slideshow
Forwards you to the next image in the slideshow

Is the counter. You are now viewing image number 3 out of 21 images. The small blue dot within the counter lights yellow whenever the slideshow is ready with a new image for you to view.

Just click on the image being displayed in the slideshow to select and view the individual it. This also stops the slideshow.

Upload New Images

Publish Files to Web. If you are assigned upload privilege in the current folder you can add new images by "uploading them". You can also choose to create a new folder where new images will be placed.

If you are not privileged to upload to a folder the upload icon is "dimmed". If your session has timed out, you will see the following warning:

In this example, the current folder is called "Upload here - unrestricted" and you are about to upload images to that folder.
You can specify up to 5 uploads for each upload session.
You can opt to receive an Email receipt to a specified e-mail address here called me@mySystem.com.
You can opt to create a new folder, which automatically becomes a sub-folder to the current one. eRez will automatically place the files you specify to upload in this new folder. Please remember to check the "create new folder" option, and remember to specify the name of the new folder.
If you upload zip files:
Finally you can add IPTC caption and keywords to your files. Caption is a textual description of the image. Keywords are used to indicate specific information retrieval words. Each keyword is separated by a line break.
Caution! Please be careful, if you check the box "Overwrite IPTC values" you will overwrite all IPTC information in your uploaded files, even IPTC information not included by the eRez server administrator in the upload menu. This is the same as clearing or deleting IPTC fields within the images not included in the upload menu.

What kind of files can be uploaded?

You can upload:
If you upload GIF, JPEG images or (TIFF images with no pyramid extensions) they are automatically optimized and converted by the eRez server to a TIFF image file with pyramid extensions. TIFF images with pyramid extensions as well as FlashPix images are not converted.
PSD files must be stored with “maximum compatibility” checked in order to be used with eRez. Since PSD files only contain a single resolution, eRez will automatically create the missing resolutions and store them in a hidden preview file. Until this process has been completed the image may temporarily show up as a grey box.
EPS, PDF and Adobe Illustrator files normally contain vector based graphics or line art used in logos and such. eRez will automatically try to create a preview of the first page for your EPS, PDF and Adobe Illustrator files if your server administrator has installed Ghostscript and configured eRez to use it. Otherwise if a TIFF preview exists inside an EPS file it will be shown as a thumbnail or when viewing a file. Otherwise a generic icon will be shown instead of the thumbnail for EPS, PDF and Illustrator files.
In SVG and the other vector based formats such as DWG, DXF and DWF eRez saves the original files but creates SVG based previous for when you view the files as thumbnails.
When you have specified files to upload, click on the Send Files. The following message will appear in the upload window:

Uploading your files.

Please do not close this window until the transfer is complete.

As noted in the window it is important that you do not close the window! Otherwise your upload transfer is disrupted and no files are transferred.
As noted in the window it is important that you do not close the window! Otherwise your upload transfer is disrupted and no files are transferred.
The files you uploaded do not become visible in the tree view and content frame before you refresh the windows. To refresh, click on the File list tab in the Navigator frame. If you upload many images that need to be converted they will not appear until after the server conversion process has finished.

Why use TIFF images?

TIFF is an open standard and by far the most versatile, reliable, and widely supported image format in use. eRez utilizes the multi-resolution information standard created by Adobe in 1996 to build so called pyramid TIFF files. The most important characteristic of this format is that the image file is organized in a way that makes it possible to read parts of the image at various resolution levels very fast.
The pyramid TIFF format has been designed to be backwards compatible with other software packages. Although these packages might not be able to take advantage of the multi-resolution image data they will still be able to read the image at the full resolution. Even Adobe Photoshop itself is unable to take advantage of the sub-resolutions and will always read the full resolution.
Because JPEG files are single resolution files they should not be used with the eRez Imaging Server if they contain more than a few megabytes of uncompressed image data (low resolution files at screen resolution). Using higher resolution JPEG images will slow down the eRez Imaging Server considerably.
FlashPix is another multi-resolution format created by KODAK, HP and Microsoft. Some of the advantages of pyramid TIFF compared to FlashPix are the support for CMYK and ciLAB color spaces, support for 16-bit per channel data as well as support for embedded ICC profiles, transparency, Photoshop layers, clipping paths, IPTC and EXIF metadata. In addition pyramid TIFF supports lossless compression by means of LZW and ZIP.

A Pyramid TIFF file contains image data at multiple resolutions.

Edit Folder Information

Edit Folder . You can edit information about the current folder by clicking on the "Edit Folder Information" button in the Navigator frame. This assumes that you are privileged to edit the folder information. All first level folders – those directly underneath the root, can only be edited by the eRez administrator.
If you are not privileged to edit folder information, a warning is issued, telling you that access is denied.

Download Image is a powerful feature that lets you define what part of the image to retrieve from the eRez server as well as the format and quality of the downloaded image.
In the top left corner you can select part or the entire image to download. To "crop" an image simply drag the handles in the image using the mouse to select the area that you want to download.
Drag the handles to resize the selection without altering the center.
To move the entire selection click on the inside of the select frame.
Additionally you can zoom in and out for a more precise selection using the buttons below the crop image. By pressing one of the mouse mode buttons (zoom, pan, rotate) you can choose the mouse function outside the selection.
Note: If your Browser does not support Flash you will get a simpler interface without the possibility to zoom, pan and rotate the selection.
If you want to download the whole image without cropping it, just leave the handles be.
eRez can create an endless number of derived variations from a single source image. Depending on how you are going to use an image you will need the image prepared with a size, resolution, format, sharpening and color definition that meets the requirement of the target medium and context. To avoid having to deal with all these details every time an image is downloaded eRez uses predefined templates with information about all the technical details for a specific medium. These templates can be added and modified by the server administrator.
The eRez server administrator may have configured your eRez server differently to better match the specific needs or your organization. The formats available on the standard download page should be configured to meet the day-to-day requirements. If you find that a particular format you need on a regular basis isn't available on the standard download page you should ask your server administrator to add it.
Choosing the right resolution: DPI is short for "Dots Per Inch" and defines the number of dots - or pixels - needed for each inch of paper or screen in order to get a good result. An image file at 300 DPI is roughly 18 times larger than an image with the same dimensions at 72 DPI and 4 times larger than an image with the same dimensions at 144 DPI.
Nothing is gained by working with an image with a resolution too high for the purpose. So pick the right resolution and save download time and storage space.

Download PDF files

If you download PDF files you will not see all these options. Downloading a PDF file gives you three options:
Download Original Adds the PDF file to the Download manager , where eRez prepares the makes a ZIP file containing the PDF file as well as a ZIP file with all your selected downloads.
Download Preview Takes you to the Download menu .
Open Original Lets you open the original PDF in your browser. If you have a PDF viewer installed the PDF viewer will open the PDF file, otherwise you are prompted to save the PDF file to your disk.

Advanced Options

You may need to enter the "Advanced Options" in situations where you need a slightly larger preview for more accurate cropping, need to rotate an image or want to override one or more of the settings for a particular template. In addition to cropping and rotation the "Advanced Options" allows you to choose an existing template and override the settings for ICC color profile, image file format, width, height and resolution.

Base Template: Approx. 30 different base templates come pre-installed with the eRez server. The server administrator may however decide to make new ones available or delete some.
ICC Profile:  eRez follows the color management conventions developed by the International Color Consortium (ICC). An ICC profile systematically describes how color numbers map to a particular color space, usually that of a device such as a scanner, printer, or monitor. From the ICC profile drop down menu you can choose between all of the ICC profiles available on the server. The professional printing standards used in Europe, USA and Asia all use different inks and different printing processes such as offset or gravure and therefore requires different ICC profiles as well.
eRez comes with the 3 generic profiles and 4 profiles CMYK offset printing as listed below. Chances are good that your server administrator has already added additional ICC profiles that match the CMYK printing standards used by your organization.
The generic profiles are:
The profiles for CMYK offset printing are:
These CMYK profiles come from the European Color Initiative and follows the ISO 12647-2 standard. You can find more profiles on the European Color Initiative web site .
The ICC profiles that comes with Adobe Photoshop also covers the most common printing methods and is available for download at the Adobe Web site .
For general information on ICC profiles, visit the ICC (International Color Consortium) Web site .
Rendering Intent: The rendering intent determines how eRez handles the ICC color conversion. The rendering intent you choose depends on whether colors are critical in an image and on your preference of what the overall color appearance of an image should be.
You may choose from the following rendering intents:
If you leave the value blank, the rendering intent specified in the template or the ICC profiles default rendering intent will be used.
Please note that some ICC profiles produce the same result regardless of the requested rendering intent.
Black Point Compensation: Black Point Compensation (BPC) is a technique used in digital photography printing. It ensures that the shadow detail in the image is preserved by simulating the full dynamic range of the output device - essentially making black more black. BPC can be used when transforming files using ICC profiles form CMYK to RGB.
As black is not always totally black in CMYK, it will be mapped to something not completely black in RGB, essentially making the RGB image more "grey". Using BPC is enabled by default.

Format: Format describes the image file format. You may choose between these 4 formats:
Rotate:  The Rotate function lets you rotate the image. Rotation is measured in degrees. Click in another input field or hit the tab key on your keyboard to update the preview after you have entered a new value. Here are some examples of rotation:
Width, Height: Specify the width and height of the image in pixels. You don't need to specify both. If for example you only specify width, eRez will adjust the height accordingly and constrain proportions.
If you specify both, width and height, the selection will be locked to the aspect ratio given by the width and height value. Press SHIFT while resizing the selection to ignore the aspect ratio. Note: If your Browser does not support Flash the aspect ratio will not be locked.
DPI: Specifies the DPI (Dots per Inch) associated with the image. Changing this value does not affect the number of pixels in the image or the size of the file. It is merely used to describe the physical dimensions of the image when placed in a page layout application or similar.
Crop top, left: You can use the cropper handles in the image displayed to select minor parts of it. You can also set the numbers manually for a left crop, that is from the top left corner. The number specified is the x,y values (top value, left value). The range of the values goes from 0 to 1 so that:
Crop top, left: , actually means crop 10% from left and 10% from the top
Crop bottom, right: Similar to the crop mentioned above, but here you crop from the bottom right corner. The values 1,1 means that the bottom right corner goes to 100% button and 100% right of the image.
Filename prefix, postfix: A prefix is a text string added before the filename and a postfix is a text string added after the filename (but not the file extension). This feature is useful for discriminating between different variations of downloaded images.
Example: The postfix ”_300_DPI” will change the filename car.tiff to car_300_DPI.tiff. If you download several variations of the same image, but with different specifications, you can use this feature to distinguish between downloads of the same source image with different specifications.
When you are finished selecting advanced options, click on Start Download to add your selection to the Download Manager .

How to open ZIP files

In order to minimize the time it takes to transfer the image and to avoid that your browser tries to display the file instead of saving it, the image files are always compressed and delivered as ZIP files.
Some operating systems such as Mac OS X and Windows XP come with the software necessary to open and extract images from ZIP files. Users of other earlier of Microsoft Windows can use the WinZIP utility and Macintosh users can use StuffIt to open the files.

Download Original

Downloads the original image file to your computer. Please notice that eRez first packs the image into a zip file. When that process is finished eRez tells you: Your image is ready! and prompts you for a place on your computer to download the image to.

Open original

Opens the original image and streams it to your machine where it will be opened by an appropriate application if you have one that supports the format. Please notice that original images can be very large. Caution - A high quality original TIFF image may be many many megabytes.

Download Manager

Download Manager Download Manager collects all you have selected for download in a list. Every time you select an image for download the eRez Server starts processing and packing the image. This means that you can browse, collect, and play around with the images you want to download. When you decide that now is the time to download them – you just click on the Download Manager.

Publish Image or Selection to Web

Publish Image "Samples/Test/1kia pack.tif" to Web

The publish to web function generates scripts you can paste into your html documents, which then calls the appropriate image or viewer(s) according to your selections.
There are four different ways of making a selection:
If your selection contains just one item, which is just one image pressing the "Publish Image to web" button will let you publish in three different ways:
1. Publish as HTML image
2. Publish as AJAX Image
3. Publish as FSI Viewer (Flash)

You can only publish as Flash viewer if the FSI flash viewer is enabled on the eRez Server when you logged in.

Publish Folder "Samples" to Web

If your selection contains more than one item, the "Publish selection to web" button lets you:
1.  Publish as FSI Pages
2.  Publish as FSI Showcase
3.  Publish as FSI Viewer 3D
4.  Publish as Slideshow
These are very powerful tools used by web designers to add dynamic image content to Web sites. With this tool it is very simple and fast to add customized images with real-time Zoom and Pan interactivity to any web-page.
On a Web site you don't embed images directly into the HTML files - instead you refer to them. When the HTML files are loaded by the Web browser, the browser will pull the image from its source and insert it into the document. The type of reference used with HTML is called a URL - Unified Resource Locator. The "Publish Image Selection to Web" function creates code you can insert into your HTML document.

Publish as HTML image

If you publish as HTML image, eRez will help you generate the HTML code necessary for inserting your selected image into your HTML page and the equivalent Image URL. You can make on-the-fly selection on what part of the image should be retrieved and how.
Traditionally a URL for an image points to a static image manually prepared in advance and placed on a Web server. By changing this URL to point directly to the eRez server, it is possible to have the eRez server create and endless number of variations of each image automatically and "on-the-fly". The eRez server is optimized to create images from URLs extremely fast - in so called "real-time". In order to serve "dynamic images" as fast as static images prepared in advance, the server utilizes a number sophisticated caching methods and visitors on the Web site will not be able to tell the difference.
Quite often the same image is used in various sizes on a Web site in the form of a small "thumbnail", a larger preview and maybe a version optimized for printing. Having the eRez server create all the different version on-the-fly eliminates the need for manually preparing them in advance. And if the source image is modified the modification will take effect on all the derived images immediately.
Since the eRez server can create images in real-time we can go even further and make the images on the Web interactive. It only takes one extra line of code in the HTML file to make it possible for the visitor to ZOOM into and inspect the details of an image. And the tools can create the URL automatically as well as the HTML code to turn the images into live interactive images.
The "Publish as HTML Viewer" features are very similar to the Advanced Download Options . But instead of making an image for you to download it constructs an URL you can insert into your html document.

Template: In the same way that eRez uses templates to describe the settings for different download formats it uses a separate set of templates when creating images in real-time from a URL. These templates can be modified and new templates can be added by the eRez Server Administrator.
By default the default sizes of the "Large", "Medium" and "Small" template are:
eRez always scales the image to fit inside the width and height without distorting the proportions. The Server Administrator may have defined templates with overlay effects. By using these templates eRez will place a semi-transparent image on top of the resulting image in order to create visual effects like frames and watermarks. Below you will see the two sample templates that are installed with the software:

Format:
  1. jpeg  standard JFIF formatted images.
  2. png 256 (or full 24 bit) color indexed PNG images. This is better than GIF and has no patent issues, which the GIF standard does.
  3. gif  256 color indexed GIF images. In most cases PNG cases PNG would be a better choise.
  4. flash JPEG compressed Flash movies. Macromedia Flash player (see www.macromedia.com) can refer to/include images in a Flash application by calling their URL's. eRez will make a flash version of the image on the fly and send it to the clients flash player. This is a great way of making dynamic content within a flash application and for not storing tons of images within it.
  5. pdf  JPEG or ZIP compressed Adobe PDF files (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader or similar). The PDF format was developed by Adobe (see www.adobe.com for more information)
  6. tiff Tagged Image File Format. Included to make the list complete. Avoid using this format on Web pages.
  7. eps Encapsulated Postscript images with 256 color TIFF preview. Included to make the list complete. Avoid using this format on Web pages.
JPEG Quality: The quality of JPEG compressed images. This must be in the range 0 (very poor quality/small image file) to 100 (highest quality/largest image file). For PDF images a value of "0" means no JPEG compression and ZIP compression will be used instead. For GIF and EPS this attribute is ignored. For PNG a value of “24” means that the file will be encoded as a full color (24 bit) image instead of 256 color (8-bit).
Sharpening: The amount of sharpening to apply to the image. This must be in the range -500 (heavy blur) to 500 (strong sharpening). A value of 0 applies no sharpening.
-500 -100 0 100 500
-100 -500 0 100 500
Fill color: The RGB background color used to pad the image in order to make the image exactly fit the specified width and height. Uses standard web color format (e.g. ff0000 is red, 00ff00 is green etc..). Click on Pick to activate the color picker.

Respond to clicks: If you want users to be able to zoom into the image you are publishing or using the Eyecon function, check this box. If you don't want to allow users any interactivity with the published image, make sure this option is left unchecked.
Eyecon: The eyecon thumbnail can be placed in the four different corners of the image, depending on the eyecon value:

Upper-left

Upper-right

Lower-Left

Lower-Right

If you use HTML code that includes support for "eyecon", a separate window with a "Viewer" will open in the browser when the user clicks on the "Eyecon".
Additional Parameters: A place where additional parameters to the eRez server can be added. This would typically be parameters and values to an SVG template file.
Use "Update HTML Code" to update the "Image URL" and "HTML Code" fields. You can preview your selections by using the "Preview" link. Use "Default Values" to reset the various selections. Finally you can copy and copy form the "Image URL" and "HTML Code" fields and paste their generated HTML code into your HTML document.

Code

As you select options on how your image should be presented in your HTML page you actually build HTML code. You can use the "Preview" link to check how your selection will look like. Use the "Update HTML code" to update the "Image URL" and "HTML code" boxes. When you are happy with your selection and have "Updated HTML code" copy the generated code and insert it into your HTML page.

Publish as AJAX Viewer

If you publish as AJAX Viewer you generate some html code that shows an interactive viewer (the AJAX Viewer ) that let’s you zoom into and pan around the image.
To publish an image with an AJAX Viewer gives you just a few options. You can set the width, height, JPEG quality and sharpening of the image displayed.
When you publish as an HTML image you publish a static image, when you publish as AJAX Viewer you publish the whole image with the available viewer actions.
Width, Height: Specify the width and height of the image in pixels. You don't need to specify both. If for example you only specify width, eRez will adjust the height accordingly and constrain proportions. If you specify both, width and height, the selection will be locked to the aspect ratio given by the width and height value.
Click on Update HTML Code to update the html code generated with your new specified values. User Default Values if you need to restore original values. Finally use Preview to open a new window with your AJAX viewer presenting the image according to your specifications.
To use the AJAX viewer on a web page you need to insert the generated code from HTML <head>: in the header and the HTML <body>: in the body of your page.

Publish as FSI Viewer (Flash)

If FSI Viewer is installed on your eRez server you can choose to publish your image for viewing with FSI Viewer. Please note that the version of FSI Viewer that ships with eRez server is an evaluation copy that needs to be licensed separately. Please contact your eRez dealer for more information.

Publish

General

Width x Height
Width and height of the viewer with an option on automatic scaling the height. In this example the FSI Viewer will have the width of 400 pixels and automatic scaling to the aspect ratio of the source image. You can deselect the automatic scaling by un-checking the “auto” option. However, eRez picks the right dimensioning of the FSI viewer when auto is checked. The height dimension is updated when you press "Update HTML code" or "Preview". By default the aspect ratio of the crop selection corresponds to the aspect ratio defined by the “Viewer Dimension” values.
Resizeable
Displays a resizable preview window if this option is checked.
Skin filename
Use the specified skin defining the appearance of FSI Viewer user interface.
FSI Skins are located in the subdirectory "/skins".
In addition to the default skins that ship with FSI Viewer customized skins are available on demand. Please note that using unregistered skins activates the evaluation mode.
Intro filename
FSI Viewer ships with a default start animation. Custom intros are available on demand.
Please note that using an unregistered intro activates the evaluation mode.
Sharpness The amount of sharpening to apply to the image. This value must be in the range -500 (heavy blur) to 500 (strong sharpening). A value of 0 applies no sharpening.
JPEG Quality: The quality of JPEG compressed images shown in the FSI Viewer. This must be in the range 0 (very poor quality/small image file) to 100 (highest quality/largest image file). It is not recommended to use values below 10% or above 90%.
Language:
Specifies the language of FSI Viewer user interface. Available language files are located in the directory [eRez root directory]/fsi4/languages/ . Please refer to FSI Viewer Documentation if you want to modify a language file or add a new language.

Viewer

Animation quality
Specifies the quality during animations (transitions). The lower the quality, the smoother the animations. Default value is BEST
Animation Speed:
Speed of animated motion from 1 (slowest) to 100 (max. speed).
Animation Type
Defines the type of the zoom animation. Possible values range from 1 to 6, and the default value is 3.
No zoom limit
Allows magnification beyond the actual resolution of the source image. If you zoom beyond the available resolution the viewer interpolates the presentation and the image may become less clear.
Maximum Zoom
The maximum magnification in percent of the source image. The default value of "100%" restricts the magnification to the physical resolution of the source image.
Possible values are "1" to "1000". The default value is 100.
Hide survey window
(See left) select whether to show or hide the small survey window within the FSI Viewer indicating which part of the image you are viewing and the percentage you have zoomed into the image.

Show selection frame
Specifies whether to show (true) or hide (false) the selection frame of the survey window. Default is show.

Use hand cursor
If you set this parameter to "Yes" the default arrow cursor will be used instead of the hand cursor when hovering over the image or the survey window. Has no effect with Flash versions prior to version 6.
Hexcolor of selection frame
Depending on the skin you will see a different selection frame color.
Opacity outside selection
Depending on the skin you will see a different type of opactity outside the selection, when you are performing a selection.
Mask hexcolor outside selection
Depending on the skin the color of the mask outside the selection frame will differ. The default value is the hexcolor for black "000000"
Survey window width / Survey window height
Specify the size of the survey window by entering the maximum width and height of the image inside the survey window.
Clipping Path: Let’s you select a clipping path contained in the image. Click the “Crop” button to crop the image to the bounding box of the clipping path. This option is available only for images containing clipping paths.
Background image URL
The path to an image on your imaging server to be used as a background. If you use a relative path (recommended) the FSIBase parameter will be used to get the absolute path to the image.
Hide user interface Hide FSI Viewer user interface (menu bar and survey window) on startup. The user can show the interface by clicking the small button in the corner of FSI Viewer.
Menu Alignment:
Alignment of the menu bar and the survey window. There are four different options – one for each corner of FSI Viewer.

No SceneSet animations
If this option is activated the transition between scenes and SceneSets is not animated. This can be usefull if the different scenes present different states of an object instead of a rotation. Default is "No"
No scene loop (X-axis)
The first and last scene in the each scene set will be considered ending points. (E.g. for partial rotations < 360 degree)
No set loop (Y-axis)
The first and the last scene set will be considered ending points. (E.g. for partial rotations < 360 degree)
Preload 3D Images: Applies to virtual 3D presentation only. FSI Viewer loads high detail preview images if enabled.
If this parameter is activated all scenes will be loaded on startup in high resolution. Otherwise preview images will be loaded with lower resolution. This parameter can significantly influence loading times and traffic volumes. Setting this parameter to false leads to faster startup times and scene images will be loaded as soon as they need to be displayed.
Scene sequence definition
With this parameter you can define the SceneSet for images with several scenes (TilesX, TilesY). This sets the order of the scenes to be displayed. A sceneset containing all scenes (image tiles) will be created if no sets are defined.
In the viewer the scenes are selected with the mouse in the x direction and the SceneSets in the y direction.
The individual sets are seperated with ";" (semicolon).
Scenes within the sets are seperated with "," (comma) and specify the 1-based index of the image from left to right, up to down up to the total number of scenes (TilesX x TilesY).
Instead of individual scenes you can also specify scene ranges, e.g. "5-10". If you leave out the start or the finish of a scene range, 1 or respectively the last scene number will be assumed. If you enter the field with "->" the field from the first number to the last number plus the first scene up to the second number will be assumed.
Size of image detail tiles (X-axis)
The value can be defined relative to the viewer size (e.g. "25%") or using absolute pixel values (e.g. "256").
The default value of 50% means that each image tile is one quarter in size of the entire viewer. This way a maximum of 9 image tiles is required to display the selected image section.
Size of image detail tiles (Y-axis)
The value can be defined relative to the viewer size (e.g. "25%") or using absolute pixel values (e.g. "256").
The default value of 50% means that each image tile is one quarter in size of the entire viewer. This way a maximum of 9 image tiles is required to display the selected image section.
No image transition
If this parameter is activated, subsequently loaded image details are displayed abruptly without transition.
Initial magnification
The initial magnification in FSI Viewer after the user selected an image to zoom. Specify the magnification in percent of the source image, e.g. "100" zooms to the physical resolution of the source image (default maximum magnification). With FSI Viewer 4.1 or above you can additionally use the parameter values "fitWidth" or "fitHeight" to make FSI Viewer zoom a page to fit the entire width or height of a page. If you do not specify this parameter FSI Viewer displays the entire image
Enable detail buffer
Enabling the detail buffer keeps previously loaded image details visible when zooming in or out instead of displaying the low resolution preview image while loading additional image details. This way zoom transitions appear smoother.
Simultaneous requests
Please do not change this value unless you are certain that this is necessary and you are aware of possible consequences:
The default value is 2
Custom help URL
If you want to create an individual help page for your FSI Viewer or FSI Showcase enter the complete (absolute) URL to this page using this parameters.
Custom help URL target
Using this parameter you can determine the target name of the browser window if a user opens the help page.
"_blank" is the default setting which causes the opening of a new browser window.
Ignore query parameters
f this parameter is activated, the viewer ignores all parameters passed via HTTP-query except for the "cfg" parameter. This way you can disable modification of FSI configuration by query.
3D Images prefix
Prefix to add to the <image src=""> values. You might want to use these parameters to pass a prefix or suffix by HTTP query rather than using the corresponding "prefix" and "suffix" attributes in the node.
3D Images suffix
Suffix to add to the <image src=""> values. You might want to use these parameters to pass a prefix or suffix by HTTP query rather than using the corresponding "prefix" and "suffix" attributes in the node.
Initial Action: Instructs FSI Viewer to execute the action specified on startup. This is especially useful for virtual 3D presentations.
The action is repeated until the user presses a button or key. During the action no image details are loaded.
Speed of Action: Defines the execution speed of "Initial Action" explained above where 1 is the fastest execution possible and greater values specify slower execution.Possible values range from 1 to 100. The default value is 3.
Repeat Action on Reset: Initial action restarts on each 'reset' command (button or keyboard) if set to true. The default value is "No".
Initial Mouse Mode: Choose the mouse mode selected on startup. The default value is 3.
Initial View
Sets the image segment that is initially displayed. The first two parameters are required as they specify the SceneSet and the Scene. For 2D image both of these values are always 1.
The other parameters are optional and specify the image segment and the rotation around the z-axis.
Return to Initial View
If this parameter is activated, clicking the "Reset" button will display the image section defined by the InitialView parameter instead of the entire image.
If this parameter is set to "No", the initial view will be active on startup, but pressing the Reset button will reset the image to the default view.

ZoomCache URL
If you use NeptuneLabs ZoomCache, please specify the URL of the ZoomCache server here. If you haven't installed this yourself, you can receive this URL and a ZoomCache ID from your image server partner or ZoomServer consultant.
Use ZoomCache for Flash 5 only
Use ZoomCache only for Flash-Plugins of Version 5.
When using watermarking, save functions or other functions of ZoomCache this parameter must have the value 0 or false to enable access to ZoomCache for all plugin versions.
ZoomCache ID
When using the NeptuneLabs ZoomCache enter the name of the access profile for your images here. You may have several profiles i.e. if you use watermarking or different Image Servers.

Plug-Ins (FSI Viewer)

Hover your mouse over any of the plug-in icons to see a short description. Click on the icon to turn it on, click again to turn it off.
Clockprogress.  Display load progress in style of a clock.

ColorAdjust.  Adds the Color Adjustment icon to the FSI Viewer menu. Clicking on the icon gives the user the color adjust menu:
ContextMenu.  Adds FSI Viewer related items to the FSI Viewers context menu.

CustomButton.  Adds a custom button to the FSI Viewer Menu. Example of a custom button wich ships with FSI Viewer:

FullScreen.  Enables the full screen option available in Flash 10. The menu button added looks like this:

History.  Add browser like navigation buttons to the FSI Viewer Menu, which let's you go back and forth in your between the places you have zoomed into and panned in the FSI Viewer image. The menu button added looks like this:

Hotspots.  Add (descriptive) hotspots to the FSI Viewer. Please notice that hotspots only purtains to the FSI Viewer - not FSI Pages. "Hotspots" in FSI Pages are specified with the link areas.

Please refer to the Plugin SelectFrame to see how you can obtain coordinates for defining hotspots.
Please refer to the FSI documentation for further information on using Hotspots.
JSBridge.  The "JavaScript Bridge" plug-in provides a scripting interface to control FSI Viewer using JavaScript. Using the JavaScript bridge you can control viewer functions like "ZoomIn" and "Reset", you can remotely press/release Buttons inside the FSI Viewer and you can zoom to specified image sections directly. Additionally you can implement a JavaScript function receiving FSI event notifications.
Though the integration of the plug-in is very easy, basic knowledge of JavaScript is required to use JSBridge plug-in - especially regarding browser dependent JavaScript implementations.
With FSI Viewer and eRez server it is very likely that you use FSI Viewer from "erez.yourdomain.tld" while your HTML document resides in the subdomain "www.yourdomain.tld". Therefore JSBridge plug-in allows script access from the subdomain "www.yourdomain.tld" and from the main domain "yourdomain.tld" by default.
In case you need to access JSBridge from other (sub)domains you can specify a list of subdomains separated by "," using this parameter, e.g.: www.domain.com,www.domain2.com
Magnifier.  Adds a magnifier to your FSI Viewer The menu button added looks like this:
MaxZoom.  Add a button to zoom to the real image size. The menu button added looks like this:

Measure.  Add a tool to measure certain parts of the image with a "ruler".The menu button added looks like this:
If you know the width of a part of the image, but you do not know the width of the entire image, you should follow the steps below:
If the Measure plug-in displays for example n=0.91388889. The real length L of the map mesure is 800 kilometers.
   ImageWidth w = L / n
= 800 / 0.91388889 = 234.7112459
MouseModes.  You can alter the sequence of the buttons by providing the modes separated by commas (see the table above). Example: "1,0,2,3" alters the sequence of the buttons to "Pan, Zoom, Rotate 3D, Rotate 2D."
Default Value is 0,1,3,2
MouseModeSelect.  Integrates a dropdown menu into the menu bar to select the mouse mode.
Music.  Play background music. The menu button added looks like this:
To play music in your FSI Viewer you must specifyan absolute or relative path to an MPEG3 file (*.mp3). If you specify a relative path (instead of "http://..." or "https://...") the path needs to be provided relative to the "music" subdirectory of the "/fsi" folder.
NavExtension.  Adds navigation helper menu. The menu button added looks like this:
PrintSave.  Add option to print and/or save images. The menu button added for print looks like this: And the menu button for save:
Resize.  Dynamically resize the FSI Viewer. This means that you can publish the FSI Viewer in a window and let the users themselves enlarge or reduce the size of the window. The FSI Viewer will then on-the-fly request images in the right size from the eRez server.
SelectFrame.  Get image coordinates, by adding a resizable select frame into FSI Viewer. The menu button added looks like this:
SelectFrame is usefull in authoring e.g. Hotspots. You can use the value displayed in the "Selection" window for the "Spot" parameter of the hotspot. You can use the value displayed in the "View" window for the optional "View" parameter.
SoftwareCursor.  The "Software Cursor" plug-in adds a software cursor representing the current mouse mode (Zoom, Drag, Rotate-2D, Rotate 3D).
Additional software cursors can be added. They will then be run from an SWF (compiled Flash movie) file containing custom cursor graphics. Please refer to the FSI Contrib package for a sample and instructions how to create your own cursor library.
Synchronize.  Syncronizes two FSI Viewer instances. This means that you can have to copies of the FSI Viewer running on the same web-page. The FSI Viewers can be syncronized so that when you zoom into one you also zoom into the other.
Further you can syncronize two instances of the FSI Viewer that uses the Measure Plugin and the SoftwareCursor Plugin.
ZoomMeter.  The "ZoomMeter" plug-in extends the survey window with a display of the current magnification.

Initial view

Is the image section (and rotation) to display on startup.
Crop top, left: You can use the crop handles in the image displayed to select minor parts of it. You can also set the numbers manually for a left crop, that is from the top left corner. The number specified is the x,y values (top value, left value). The range of the values goes from 0 to 1 so that:
Crop top,left: ,
actually means crop 10% from left and 10% from the top
Crop bottom, right: Similar to the crop mentioned above, but here you crop from the bottom right corner. The values 1,1 means that the bottom right corner goes to 100% button and 100% right of the image.
SceneSet, Scene, Rotation: The first two values define the current SceneSet and Scene for virtual 3D presentations. The rotation value specifies the 2D rotation (tilt) of the image in FSI Viewer on startup in 0..360 degrees.
Click on Select entire image to redo you selection.

Crop

Crop Crop the image to match the viewer size independent of the aspect ratio of the image. In contrast to cropping the image using the crop values this option does not only modify the initial image section to view.
Use the SHIFT and Ctrl keys to switch resize mode.

Publish as FSI Pages

FSI Pages Add-on for FSI Viewer offers the possibility to publish high resolution image collections on-line. With FSI Pages you can create virtual booklets like catalogs or photo albums including automatically built indices and image zoom via FSI Viewer. As FSI Pages loads image and page data on demand you can publish virtual catalogs containing 1,000 pages or even more without increasing the startup time considerably.
The images displayed in FSI Pages can either be specified manually or automatically based on a selection . The selection can be dynamic and each image represents an individual page of the catalog or photo album. If your selection is a folder, whenever the folder content changes the content in the FSI Pages changes as well. If your selection is a search query, whenever images are added or deleted on the eRez server that includes or excludes it from the query in the selection, the content in the FSI Pages changes accordingly.
Please refer to FSI Viewer documentation for a detailed description of FSI Pages options and parameters.
Please note that the version of FSI Pages Add-on that ships with eRez server is an evaluation copy that needs to be licensed separately.
Please contact your eRez dealer for more information.

Publish

General

Width x Height Width x height of the viewer instance (in pixels or percent).
Resizeable Displays a resizable preview window if this option is checked.
Skin filename Choose an FSI Pages Skin which is the artwork of the FSI Pages.
In addition to the default skins that ship with FSI Viewer customized skins are available on demand. Please note that using unregistered skins activates the evaluation mode.
Intro filename FSI Viewer ships with a default start animation. Custom intros are available on demand.
Please note that using an unregistered intro activates the evaluation mode.
Image Sharpening: Enter a numeric value to sharpen (0..500) or blur (-500..0) images.
Quality The quality of JPEG compressed images shown in the FSI viewer and thumbnails. This must be in the range 0 (very poor quality/small image file) to 100 (highest quality/largest image file). It is not recommended to use values below 10% or above 90%.
Language: Defines the language of viewer tooltips. Possible values depend on the language files located in the sub-index "/languages" of the FSI Viewer installation path. To specify a language, please enter the filename without the file extension, e.g. "german".
Some language files contain the pattern "_font" in the filename. These files include a corresponding font for the specified language. Though the size of these files is greater than those without a font, the included font ensures correct display on systems with charsets not matching the selected language.

Sourcecode Options

Additional Parameters: You can use this text field to enter FSI parameters manually.
Parameters have to be entered in the following way (Parameter1=Value1&Parameter2=Value2)
Debug Window: FSI Viewer displays a debug window offering useful authoring information if set to "yes".

Target Document
Choose the document type of the web document you want to add the FSI Pages code to. Usually this should be "HTML 4.0".

Load/Save Settings

As FSI Pages offers many parameters to change the layout, behavior and appearance it is important to understand how to modify default values and how to create your own layout presets.
To modify default options marked with an asterisk sign (*) you can edit the XML configuration file "_default.fsi" located in the FSI Viewer setup directory (the default location is "[eRez root directory]/fsi"). Additionally you can load "Settings" which represents a configuration file defining FSI Viewer options as well as the FSI Pages Add-on appearance. All values defined in the layout preset supersede options specified in the default configuration. However, options selected manually supersede values of the default configuration as well as values defined in the layout preset.
The default settings offer the following configurations:
  • backgroundimage
  • Displays a background image to your FSI Pages. By default the image displayed will be the an image from the "Samples" folder. You can change the image displayed by clicking on the Plug-Ins tab and set the path to an image under the BackgroundImage plugin.
  • catalog
  • Each image represents a page, no page margins, no overlays.
NOTE: XML page data in the source images will be ignored.
  • Catalog_links
  • Each image represents a page, no page margins, no overlays.
If the image contains XML data in the "IPTC_FSI" data field, links will be presented on the page.
  • catalog_links_chapters
  • Like the above, but including the Chapters plug-in to quickly access chapters in your catalog. Chapters can be specified in the "Add/Edit Chapters " below.
  • erez_defaults
  • Loads eRez default settings for FSI Pages. The default settings is defined by your system administrator.
  • fancy_photo_album_with_text
  • Loads a photo album with mirror effect and text from the IPTC caption field
  • fancythumbnail
  • Used for publishing a small catalogue with automatic page-flipping and mirror effect.
  • hard_cover_book
  • Display your catalogue as a hardcover book with the front and back cover being "stiff".
  • lightweight
  • Displays your catalogue with the "plain" skin
  • photo
  • A simple photo album with photo corners and an emboss effect for each image.
  • photo_text
  • A simple photo album with photo corners and an emboss effect for each image. Additionally an optional text in "IPTC_CAPTION" of the image will be displayed below the image.
  • thumbnail
  • No user interface, zoom is disabled. Pages flip automatically when idle.
You can specify a link for the entire viewer area so that you can use this template to publish a thumbnail of a catalog linking to the full size catalog.
  • videooverlaysample
  • Enable video overlays and displays a video sample in your catalgue
See FSI Viewer documentation for configuration details
You can alter the presets above by editing the corresponding XML configuration file located in the directory "[eRez root directory]/fsi4/config/pages_presets/". If you choose to add more layout preset files you additionally need to register these files by adding the name and the file name to the variable "$FSI_PAGES_PRESETS" in the file [erez root directory]/WEB-INF/templates/config/fsi.html.

Edit Hyperlinks and Overlays

When you upload a PDF file to the eRez imaging server you no longer need to make all your hyperlinks in a program such as Adobe Acrobat before uploading he PDF.
Hyperlinks are stored inside the rendered TIFF images extracted from each page in the PDF file, and information about hyperlinks, video page overlays etc. are stored inside a special " FSI Viewer Extra " IPTC field.
If your eRez system administrator allows you to, you can edit such information by clicking on the " Edit Hyperlinks and Overlays " button:
 Edit Hyperlinks and Overlays

Click here to add or edit Hyperlinks or Overlays for this FSI Pages Collection

When you enter the Hyperlink editor you see these three icons:
This tab lets you save your edits to the FSI Viewer Extra IPTC fields in the TIFF images.

Is the hyperlink editor where you can edit hyperlinks inside the images

The overlay editor where you can specify FSI Pages overlays to load on each page.

Loading and saving links and overlays
Clicking on this icon allows you to save your edits in the hyperlink and/or Pages overlay editor to the TIFF files.
Please notice that edits are permanent, you can not roll back your edits once you have saved to the TIFF file.

If you do NOT want to save your work but instead reload previously stored information from the TIFF files. This will revert all unsaved changes.
Edit hyperlinks
Each page is defined in an x,y space ranging from 0.0 to 1.0 on each axis. All links are defined by their position in this x,y space. Independent of the width-height aspect ratio of the page the coordinates 0.5,0.5 will be the center of the page.

Lets you edit the URL of the current link.

To rotate a link shape press this button.

To make a rectangular link. Select the area to assign the link in the FSI Viewer. You will now see how a number (No.), a Page and a URL "*** NEW LINK 1 ***" is assigned to it. If you click on and then on URL to select it, you will be able to edit the information in the bottom right section of the Hyperlink Editor:
  • URL:
  • For some special URL values FSI Pages ignores the URL Prefixes and URL Suffixes. The following table lists these special URLs:
    • javascript:foo() Call the JavaScript function foo()
    • mailto:email@mydomain.com Send an email to email@mydomain.com. For mailto URLs the target frame will always be "_self".
    • #none Do nothing. This is handy if you just want to display a tool tip.
    • #page=n Forces FSI Pages to flip to page n
    • #zoom Forces FSI Pages to zoom to the area covered by the link's shape(s)
    • #zoom=1,1,0,0,0.5,0.5 Forces FSI Pages to zoom to the image area following "="
    • #zoomonpage=n;strView Is a combination of "#page=" and "#zoom=". This is: first flip to page n, then zoom to area strView.
Please note that the special links starting with "#" needs to be provided exactly as listed above. Using e.g. "#zoomToPage=[...]" or "foo.html#zoom" will link to the HTML anchor provided rather than executing an FSI Pages action.
  • Target:
  • The default target frame for the URL, if no "target" attribute has been set for the whole FSI Pages catalogue.
  • Parameters/Tool tips:
  • This is the place to add text for the tool tips for the link area. Please remember to turn on the "LargeToolTips" plug-in.
You can display HTML formatted text in the tool tips. The following HTML tags can be used in the tool tip text data:
<b>...</b>
<i>...</i>
<u>...</u>
<br/>
<font size="n" color="#RRGGBB" >...</font>
<p align="...">...</p></p>

To make a polygon link. You can specify as many control points as you like. If you click you fix a control point. If you hold down your mousekey you will be drawing. Not pressing or clicking on any key on your mouse means finding the next fix point.

If you are making a rectangular or polygon link you can hide the red lines marking the xy coordinate system by holding down this button.

Edit page overlays
Page overlays are compiled Flash movies clips that can be used as an overlay, floating above a page in FSI Pages. You have probably seen the "Photo Album" example created with FSI Pages at www.fsi-viewer.com. The small sticky photo corners come from an overlay file.
To create a new page overlay please click on:
Next you must select what type of Overlay file to add. In this example we choose "Video":
You will immediately see how the fields are filled out with values for adding a video:
What we need now is to add a value for the videostream. The FSI Pages Overlays can display flash (flv) videos. You need to enter the absolute path. Example http://www.myserver.com/myvideo.flv
Trick for creating paths to videos on your eRez server:
  1. Select a flash video on your eRez server, for example the "Flash Movie.flv", you will find in the Samples/Other documents/ shared folder on your eRez.
  2. Click on "Publish to web" in the top navigation bar.
  3. Select "HTML image"
  4. Copy the Image URL to a text editor. In his example the eRez server is called http://localhost/erez, so your Image URL looks like this
  5. http://localhost/erez/erez?src=Samples/Other%20documents/Flash%20Movie.flv&tmp=Medium
  6. Delete the last parameter "&tmp=Medium" from the URL
  7. http://localhost/erez/erez?src=Samples/Other%20documents/Flash%20Movie.flv
  8. Now add "&cmd=getv" to the URL
  9. http://localhost/erez/erez?src=Samples/Other%20documents/Flash%20Movie.flv&cmd=getv
  10. Paste this URL into the Value of the Videostream parameter. You will see a small movie with a duck and her ducklings playing as a page overlay on your page.

After you have made your page overlay you can move it by clicking on this button.

If you hold down this button while changing the position of the page overlay, you will hide the red lines for the xy coordinate space.

Please see the FSI Viewer documentation for a more in-depth description of page overlays.

Add/Edit Chapters

enabled
You can edit chapters if the eRez administrator has set you up to do so. If you enable the plugin chapters or check this button, you can load, save and delete previously stored chapters on your eRez server.
For each entry in your chapters file, you must tell FSI on which page the chapter should be placed.

HTML code

HTML Code: is the code you have created by setting the various parameters of your FSI Pages catalogue. You can copy this code and paste it into your web page in order to show your FSI Pages.
Dir/Image value: Is information about the what folder and/or image(s) you are publishing with your FSI.

FSI Pages

General

Hard Pages
Defines wether the pages are flexible or inflexible e.g. like a book cover
Bend effect
Using this option you can alter the "3D" effect of the pages in FSI Pages.
You can choose "Glossy" (highlights and shadows), "Matte" (shadows only) or "none" to disable these effects.
Bend effect intensity
Defines the effect level of the "Page Bend Effect" selected above as well as the intensity of the dop shadow behind the pages.
Drop shadow
Show or hide the drop shadow behind pages.
Drop shadow distance
Specifies the shadow distance of the drop shadow effect. You might want to choose larger values for large catalogs, or small values for very thin catalogs.
Flip corner size
Specifies the size of the interactive page corners you can use to flip pages. You can either specify the size in pixels or in percent of the page width. Setting this parameter to "0" disables interactive page flipping by dragging the page corners.
The default value is 10
Flip edge size
Specifies the size of the interactive outer page edges you can use to flip pages. You can either specify the size in pixels or in percent of the page width.
Setting this parameter to "0" disables interactive page flipping by dragging the page edges.
Background Image:
Let you define an image on eRez server serving as a background image. Please enter the relative path to the image, just like eRez displays the path when you view an image in eRez web interface (you can copy the path from the "Path and Name" row, e.g. "sample images/formats/TIFF/3D Toy Car.tif").
Background Image Effects
Defines image modification parameters to apply to images used. The value of this parameter depends on the imaging server being used. With eRez server you can sharpen the image and define the JPEG compression level, e.g. "sharpen=100&quality=95".
Show load progress
Show (Yes) or hide (No) the load progress display. FSI Pages automatically sets this parameter to "true" if you specify a hyperlink for the entire FSI Pages instance

Behaviour

Enable Zoom:
Enable or disable zooming into pages when the user clicks a page.
Enabling this option enables the user to zoom a page by clicking it. Default value is Yes.
Initial magnification
Enter the initial magnification when clicking a page in percent of the source image ("100" = maximum magnification).
With FSI Viewer 4.1 or above you can additionally use the parameter values "fitWidth" or "fitHeight" to make FSI Viewer zoom a page to fit the entire width or height of a page. If you do not specify this parameter FSI Viewer displays the entire image.
Possible values range from 1 to 1000
Zoom pages in place
By default FSI Pages zooms pages to use the entire space of the viewer for zooming.
Choosing "yes" makes FSI Pages zoom image in place.
Show links while turning pages
Set this parameter to "Yes" if you want FSI Pages to display link shapes during flip animations. Showing links decreases the performance of the flip animations.
Show overlays when zooming
Defines whether to show or hide page overlays when zooming into a page.

Config

Crop images to pages
Enable this option to automatically crop images to fill the entire pages. You need to specify an aspect ratio manually in this case.
Enable page slider
Enable or disable the slider of the user interface to quickly navigate to different pages.
First page number
By default (FirstPageNumber=1) the front cover is page number one. You can specify an offset so that the page numbers start with a different value. This parameter affects page numbers, the index and the display of the current page number in the FSI Pages user interface.
Enable page Index
Enable or disable the page index presenting thumbnails of all pages.
Cache index images
Setting the value to Yes (default) speeds up showing and hiding the page index with a possible overall performance penalty when presenting many pages. Setting the value to false deletes index data when hiding the index, forcing the viewer to build the index each time it is shown.
Total no. of pages to cache
Defines the number of pages to hold in memory. Using larger numbers will make FSI Pages consume more memory (RAM) and cached pages will be read from the browser's file cache less frequently.
Use "No" to hold all pages in memory once loaded. This is the default behaviour of previous versions.
No. of images to cache backwards
Number of preceding pages to load in advance. Default is 2
No. of images to cache forward
Number of subsequent pages to load in advance. Default is 4
Remember last page
If you enable this parameter FSI Pages stores the page number of the most recently viewed page on the user's computer and displays this page on start up the next time the user views the same catalogue (image collection) again.
Forget last page after
By default the last viewed page will be restored on the next visit of a user if you enable the RememberLastViewedPage parameter. You might want to specify an expire time after that the last viewed page will be discarded. Please specify the expire time in seconds, e.g. "3600" for one hour. By default, the stored pages will be stored infinitely.
Minimum cache time
Defines the minimum time each page is being held in memory after it has been viewed the last time. Set this parameter to "0" to remove pages exceeding the "PageCacheLimit" immediately. Default is 3.
Turn pages when idle
Run the FSI Pages in demonstration mode and turn pages automatically when the user does not interact (move the mouse) for 2 seconds. Default is "No".
Turn pages when idle delay
Show each page for at least n seconds when flipping pages automatically. Please note that a page might be displayed for longer if loading the page takes longer than the time specified.
Turn pages when idle min page
Loop the auto flip action between minimum and maximum "Turn page when idle". This way you can restrict the auto flip to a range of pages. If the initial page is outside the range specified, FSI Pages flips towards the range before looping between the range specified.
Turn pages when idle max page
Maximum page to auto flip to with "turn pages when idle". (See above)
User interface
Enable or disable FSI Pages user interface.
Initial page
Enter the index of the page to display on startup. By default this is "1" for the front cover.
Page turn speed
Enter a numeric value specifying the page turn speed between 1 (slowest) and 100 (fastest).
Default Value is 82.
Rotation
Optional rotation of FSI Pages thumbnails. Please note that using the "rotation" parameters with normal size FSI Pages instances is not recommended as zooming, printing, index view and alike do not correspond to the rotation.

Pages aspect ratio
Enter the aspect ratio of the individual pages, e.g. "8000:6000". By default FSI Pages uses the aspect ratio of the first image in the collection.
Page overlay
Define a global page overlay for all pages and/or for individual pages. A page overlay is a movie clip that loads on top of a page. To specify a default overlay for all pages except for those, you specified an individual overlay for, please add a default="true" attribute to the node. Please see chapter "Page Overlays" in the FSI Viewer Manual for details.
Remove pages at
Using this parameter you can add blank pages. The value of the parameter must contain one or more image page numbers of the blank pages to be inserted.
E.g. "2,10" adds two blank pages at page 2 and page 10, moving the other images in your collection correspondingly.
Reverse Pages
Set this parameter to "Yes" to reverse the page sequence of pages. Please note that this parameter does not change the reading order.
Use Right to Left
By default FSI Pages uses the western page reading order (left-to-right). Enable this parameter to use right-to-left reading order, e.g. for Arab documents.
Single sided
By default FSI Pages creates a page for each image in the image collection. Using this parameter you can advise FSI Pages to use images on even or uneven pages only, inserting a blank page on the opposite side.
  • Use "false" to display images on all pages. (default)
  • Use "even" to display images on even pages only.
  • Use "uneven" to display images on uneven pages only
Default value is false
XML base path
If you specify this parameter, FSI Pages will try to load XML data for each page from the location specified.
The file path of the XML files must match XMLBase/[image filename].xml
Enable plug-in events
Using this parameter you can enable or disable plug-in event notifications e.g. for the JS Bridge plug-in. Please see "Event Notifications and Actions" in the FSI Documentation for details.
Logging delay
Specifies a minimum period of time a page must be visible before loading the PageLogURL. Use "0" to log each page access immediately. The default value of 2000 (ms) ensures, that a page has been viewed for at least 2 seconds.
Logging target
By default FSI Pages uses the special target "_internal" which loads the URL from within the Flash plug-in. You can use this parameter to specify a different HTML target frame like "_self" or "_top".
Logging URL
Template based URL to load each time the user flips to another page. The following templates will be replaced at runtime:
  • [pagenum] - The current 0-based page index
  • [totaltime] - Total seconds the FSI Pages instance is visible
  • [instanceid] - A unique number identifying the FSI Pages instance
  • [uniqueid] - The FSI Pages parameter value "UniqueID"
Example URL: http://foo.com/log.php?catalog=foo&page=[pagenum]&id=[instanceid]
You can alternatively call a Javascript function using the "javascript:" syntax. In this case you need to define a valid HTML target frame using the "PageLogTarget" parameter.

Cover

Back Cover:
Setting "BackCover" parameter to false disables access to the back cover and forces FSI Pages to add a blank content page if required.
Fill full back cover
Fill the entire back cover with the corresponding image. This is: Ignore page margins and do not use an overlay for the cover page specified.
Back cover image
Use the image specified. Enter a relative path to an image (e.g. "images/flowers/rose.tif")
Blank back cover
Use a blank page without any image
Back cover configuration
Specify a separate image configuration file (*.fsi) to be used for the back cover. The cover page(s) will be added to images in the image list.
Front cover
Setting "FrontCover" parameter to false disables access to the front cover and forces FSI Pages to display the first image on the first inner left page.
Fill full front cover
Fill the entire front cover with the corresponding image. This is: Ignore page margins and do not use an overlay for the cover page specified.
Front cover image
Use the image specified. Enter a relative path to an image (e.g. "images/flowers/rose.tif")
Blank front cover
Use a blank page without any image
Help image URL
An absolute or relative ImageURL (like FPXSrc) to an image on the imaging server that FSI Pages displays left of the first page of the catalog.
Front cover configuration
Specify a separate image configuration file (*.fsi) to be used for the front cover. The cover page(s) will be added to images in the image list.

Layout

Image alignment on pages
Alignment of the images on the pages. The default is "TC" which centers the images horizontally on top of the page.
Please specify the alignment for even (left) pages. Uneven (right) pages will be aligned correspondingly. Possible values are any combination of:
  • T (Top)
  • C (Center)
  • B (Bottom)
and
  • L (Left)
  • C (Center)
  • R (Right)
The default value is "TC".
Max. index image size
Enter the maximum width or height for the thumbnail images in the page index.
The actual width and height depend on the aspect ratio of the pages (see parameter " Pages aspect ratio ").
The possible values range from 16 to 1000. Default value is "60".
Crop page images (Bottom)
Specify the amount in pixel (e.g. "100") or in percent (e.g. "10%") to crop from the specified bottom side of the page image.
This parameter is especially useful to remove crop marks from catalogs. Instead of using the crop amounts "CropLeft" and "CropRight" you might want to use "CropInner" and "CropOuter" for alternating crop margins for even/uneven pages.
Crop page images (Inner)
Specify the amount in pixel (e.g. "100") or in percent (e.g. "10%") to crop from the inner side of the page image.
Crop page images (Left)
Specify the amount in pixel (e.g. "100") or in percent (e.g. "10%") to crop from the specified left side of the page image.
Crop page images (Outer)
Specify the amount in pixel (e.g. "100") or in percent (e.g. "10%") to crop from the outside of the page image.
Crop page images (Right)
Specify the amount in pixel (e.g. "100") or in percent (e.g. "10%") to crop from the specified right side of the page image.
Crop page images (Top)
Specify the amount in pixel (e.g. "100") or in percent (e.g. "10%") to crop from the specified top side of the page image.

Interface margin bottom  , Interface margin left  , Interface margin right , Interface margin top
Margin on the side of the turning pages in pixel. The margin effects the position of the pages only, not the user interface of FSI Pages. You should at least specify a bottom margin to provide space for the interface.

Page Margin (Bottom) , Page Margin (Inner) , Page Margin (Outer) , Page Margin (Top)
Margins of the content of each page in percent of the page width (inner and outer) or page height (top and bottom).
Viewer Margin (Bottom) , Viewer Margin (Left) , Viewer Margin (Right) , Viewer Margin (Top)
Using Viewer Margin parameters to define the size and position of FSI Viewer inside FSI Pages. Usually you only specify Viewer Margin Bottom to provide space for the FSI Pages interface.

Links

Enable/Follow links
Setting this parameter to "No" prevents FSI Pages from opening links on the pages. Links and tool tips will nevertheless be displayed.
Link template data
When defining "Link Templates" to replace place holders in Link URLs you can use this parameter to specify the values that shall be inserted. The number and sequence of the values must match the number and sequence of the templates you defined using the "Link Templates" parameter. Multiple values have to be separated by commas and the individual values have to be provided urlencoded.
Link templates
You can provide one or more identifiers that will be replaced in Link URLs. The identifiers are case sensitive and must be separated by commas. The values to insert have to be defined by the parameter "LinkTemplateData"
Default link URL
Use this URL for links if no URL has been specified in the page data.
Default link target
Use this HTML target frame for links if no target frame has been specified in the page XML data.
Default link URL prefix
Use this prefix for all links on the pages if no prefix has been specified in the page data.
Default link URL suffix
Use this suffix for all links on the pages if no suffix has been specified in the page data.
Default link tool tip
Use this tool tip for all links on the pages if no tool tip has been specified in the page data.
Default Javascript target
Use this HTML target frame for "javascript:" links if no target frame has been specified in the page data. Default value is "_self"

Print resolution
Defines the maximum size of the image in pixels to download for printing. Please note that the actual size depends on the size of the image and (with eRez server) on the maximum size defined in the real time template used with FSI Viewer (see parameter PrintTemplate).
The default value is 2000
Print template
Defines the eRez real time template used to load the print image

Enable saving
Enable or disable the user to download pages, or documents representing parts of the entire document. Without additional preparations, FSI Pages offers downloading an image of the left or right page. Additionally you can provide documents for download for the entire document, a section of the document or PDF files for each page. FSI Viewer documentation provides extensive information on configuring and preparing these download options.
Enable saving of images
Set this parameter to "No" if you want to prevent the user from downloading images of pages. In this case the PDF download options will be displayed only.
Save options
A comma separated list of options to be presented to the user in the "Save" dialog. The default is presenting all options which corresponds to the following parameter value:
  • document,chapters,both,left,right
Using the parameter value: left, right enables saving the left or right page only. Please note that the options might as well not appear, if there is no data available or specified to download for any of these options
Save effects
Defines image modification parameters to apply to images used for saving. The value of this parameter depends on the imaging server being used. With eRez server you can sharpen the image and define the JPEG compression level, e.g. "sharpen=100&quality=95".
Save URL prefix
Specifies a prefix for the URL FSI Pages opens when the user chooses the "Left Page" or "Right Page" option in the Save dialog.
Save URL suffix
Specifies a suffix for the URL FSI Pages opens when the user chooses the "Left Page" or "Right Page" option in the Save dialog.
Save resolution
The maximum resolution for images the user can choose to download in the "Save" dialog. Please note that the actual size of the image might be limited by the resolution of the source image or by an imaging server restriction.
The default value is 2000
Save template
The eRez real time template to use when downloading images in the "Save" dialog
The default real-time template is fsi. New real-time templates can only be added by the eRez administrator(s).
Save URL target
HTML frame to open page related files (SaveURL) in. Default value is "_blank".
Force save URL
This parameter overrides the download URL specified in the "file" attribute of the page's XML data. Specifying this parameter forces FSI Pages to use the same download URL for all pages.
Full document URL
URL to a document containing all pages displayed in an FSI Pages instance. This is the URL the user will be redirected to when choosing the "Entire Document" option in the "Save" dialog

Search

Enable search
Enable or disable the user to search the content of your document.
FSI Pages displays a dialog where the user can enter one or more keywords. FSI Pages retrieves matches from eRez server, which searches the images contained in your flipping document - similar to searching in eRez web interface.
Make sure to check the "Enable Text Search" option in FSI Pages Converter 2, if you convert a PDF document. This way FSI Pages Converter exctracts the text contained in each page of the PDF and writes the keywords to the IPTC data of each TIFF file. This way you can provide a convenient content search to users.
URL to request search results
You can assign a custom URL to direct search requests to using this parameter. For example you might want to use a database and server side script to return pages related to the search request. This is the default way if you are not using eRez imaging server.
Width of search dialog
The width of the search dialog in pixels.
Height of search dialog
The height of the search dialog in pixels.
Add quotes to search
Setting this parameter to "Yes" makes FSI Pages add quotes to search requests so that only exact matches will be returned. Setting this parameter implicitly disables the "Add wildcards to search" parameter.
Add wildcards to search
By default FSI Pages adds wildcards ("*") to the keywords the user entered into the search input of the search dialog. Set this parameter to "No" if you don't want FSI Pages to add wildcards automatically. Using "Yes" disables this parameter. Default value is "Yes".
Use HTTP GET for search
By default FSI Pages requests search results using the HTTP POST method. Using this parameter you can force FSI Pages to use the HTTP GET method when requesting search results. Default value is "No".
Search parameters
This parameter provides the possibility to add parameters to the search query within FSI Pages. The parameters need to be provided in the regular HTTP request format: param1=value1&param2=value2.
Value to pass with search
A custom string to pass to the server along with the search request. This option is useful for logging purposes when using a server other than eRez to return search results.

FSI Viewer

General

Animation quality
Specifies the quality during animations (transitions). The lower the quality, the smoother the animations.
Animation speed
Speed of animated motion from 1 (slowest) to 100 (max. speed).
Animation Type
Defines the type of the zoom animation
No zoom limit
Allows magnification beyond the actual resolution of the source image. If you zoom beyond the available resolution the viewer interpolates the presentation and the image may become less clear.
Maximum Zoom
The maximum magnification in percent of the source image. The default value of "100%" restricts the magnification to the physical resolution of the source image.
Hide survey window
(See left) select whether to show or hide the small survey window within the FSI Viewer telling you which part of the image you are viewing and the percentage you have zoomed into the image
Show selection frame
Specifies whether to show (Yes) or hide (No) the selection frame of the survey window.
Use hand cursor
If you set this parameter to "true" the default arrow cursor will be used instead of the hand cursor when hovering over the image or the survey window.
Hexcolor of selection frame
Depends on the skin
Opacity outside selection
Depends on the skin
Mask hexcolor outside selection
Depends on the skin
Survey window width / Survey window height
Specify the size of the survey window by entering the maximum width and height of the image inside the survey window.
Background image URL
The path to an image on your imaging server to be used as a background. If you use a relative path (recommended) the FSIBase parameter will be used to get the absolute path to the image.
Hide user interface
After loading FSI Viewer the menu bar does not display. A menu opener button is displayed instead which shows how the menu can be displayed. This option is especially usefull when an image is meant to look like an ordinary image, or when there are many FSI Viewers to be seen on one website.
Page Flip Sounds:
Enabling this option enables the FSI Viewer plug-in "PageSounds" which play varying and panning page flip sounds when the user flips a page.
Menu alignment
Alignment of the menu bar and the survey window.
There are six different options:
  • TL = TopLeft
  • TC = TopCenter
  • TR = TopRight
  • BL = BottomLeft
  • BC = BottomCenter
  • BR = BottomRight

No SceneSet animations
If this option is activated the transition between scenes and SceneSets is not animated. This can be usefull if the different scenes present different states of an object instead of a rotation.
No scene loop (X-axis)
The first and last scene in the each scene set will be considered ending points. (E.g. for partial rotations < 360 degree). The default is "No"
No set loop (Y-axis)
The first and the last scene set will be considered ending points. (E.g. for partial rotations < 360 degree). The default is "No".
Preload 3D Images
Default value is 50%.
Size of image detail tiles (Y-axis)
Please see previous
  • Increasing this value might lead to increased imaging server load
  • Decreasing the value will decrease the download performance
Custom help URL
If you want to create an individual help page for your FSI Viewer or FSI Showcase enter the complete (absolute) URL to this page using this parameters.
Default Value: http://help.fsi-viewer.com
Custom help URL target
Using this parameter you can determine the target name of the browser window if a user opens the help page. "_blank" is the default setting which causes the opening of a new browser window.
Ignore query parameters
If this parameter is activated, the viewer ignores all parameters passed via HTTP-query except for the "cfg" parameter. This way you can disable modification of FSI configuration by query.
3D Images prefix
Prefix to add to the <image src=""> values. You might want to use these parameters to pass a prefix by HTTP query rather than using the corresponding "prefix" attributes in the <images3d> node.
3D Images suffix
Suffix to add to the <image src=""> values. You might want to use these parameters to pass a suffix by HTTP query rather than using the corresponding "prefix" attributes in the <images3d> node.
Initial action
Instructs FSI Viewer to execute the action specified on startup. This is especially useful for virtual 3D presentations.
Speed of action
Defines the speed of "Initial Action" explained above where 1 is the fastest execution possible and greater values specify slower execution.
Repeat action on reset
Choose "yes" to repeat the "Initial Action" explained above each time the user resets the viewer.
Initial mouse mode
Specifies the selected mouse mode on startup. Default value is "3".

Publish as FSI Showcase

Like FSI Viewer, FSI Showcase provides the possibility to view high resolution images on-line and present virtual three-dimensional objects requiring low bandwidth only. FSI Showcase Add-on integrates a resizable scroll pane into FSI Viewer displaying automatically generated thumbnails of multiple images. Clicking a thumbnail displays the image in FSI Viewer. This way a single viewer instance can be used to display hundreds of images presenting thumbnails and optional labels for each image.
The images displayed in FSI Showcase can either be specified manually (the contents of a shared folder) or automatically based on a selection . The selection can be dynamic. If your selection is a folder, whenever the folder content changes, the content in the FSI Showcase changes as well. If your selection is a query, whenever images are added or deleted on the eRez server that includes or excludes it from the query in the selection, the content in the FSI Showcase changes accordingly.
Please refer to FSI Viewer documentation for a detailed description.
Please note that the version of FSI Showcase Add-on that ships with eRez server is an evaluation copy that needs to be licensed separately. Please contact your eRez dealer for more information.
Click "Preview" any time to see the effect of your changes.
As FSI Showcase offers many parameters to change the layout, color and appearance it is important to understand how to modify default values and how to create your own settings.
To modify default options you can edit the XML configuration file "_default.fsi" located in the FSI Viewer setup directory (the default location is "[eRez root directory]/fsi"). Additionally you can select settings which represents a configuration file defining FSI Viewer options as well as the Showcase appearance. All values defined in the layout preset supersede options specified in the default configuration. However, options selected manually supersede values of the default configuration as well as values defined in the layout preset.

Image selected at startup
The index of the image selected on startup. Enter the index of the image from 1 to n images. The default value is 1.
Preload thumbnails
Setting the value to "0" makes the showcase load thumbnails on-demand. Setting positive values enables the pre-loader which loads all images on startup. The given value specifies the number of images to preload simultaneously.
Please note: Be careful when activating this option especially with automatically generated image lists or large image lists as it might cause higher server loads and increased (and possibly unnecessary) network traffic.
Generate thumbnails using InitialView
Use the image section defined by the parameter "Initial View" to create the thumbnail image if set to "Yes". If set to "No" the entire image will be used.
Crop images to thumbnail size
Automatically crop images to match the dimensions of the thumbnails.
Empty images
Using this parameter you can add place holders to your image collection. The value of the parameter must contain one or more image indices the place holders shall occupy.
E.g. "2,10" adds place holders at position 2 and 10.

Viewer

The parameters of the Viewer section is completely similar to the ones found in FSI Viewer section.

Crop

Crops works exactly as described in the FSI Viewer, Crop section.

3D Viewer

This option is available in eRez folder view and in the search result view and enables you to quickly publish 3D views based on the images displayed. This is: you can skip the composing process required with FSI Viewer 3 or lower and can easily create 3D views following the steps below:
Note: You can use this option with any directory, but using this option with unrelated 2D images lead to a reasonable result.
FSI Viewer 3D works exactly like the FSI Viewer described previously.
Please refer to FSI Viewer documentation for a detailed information on creating 3D views and additional 3D configuration options.

How to create 3D images with Adobe photoshop

You can make a 3D viewer just selecting the images from eRez you want to include. But you can also create just one image with all the images for the FSI 3D Viewer included.
In Adobe Photoshop, select:
It is very important that images which should be stitched together, are placed in alphabetic order in the directory.
The total width and total height of the combined image is the final width and height when stitched together.
Additional good advice:
  • Flatten all layers
  • Disable "Use filename as caption"
  • Disable "Auto-Spacing"
  • Set Horisontal spacing = 0
  • Set Vertical spacing = 0

Slideshow

As part of the eRez Server you can publish your selections as a flash enabled slideshow. This slideshow is accessible to all and independent of whether the eRez server has a FSI flash viewer license.
SlideShow Dimension: x px

Default Values  Update HTML Code  Preview
SlideShow Dimension: width x height (in pixels).
Menu:
  • default the default navigation menu setting for the eRez server. This is can be customized by the server administrator.
  • auto navigation menu becomes visible when users mouse scrolls over the navigation menus position in the slideshow.
  • on navigation menu is always on and visible in the slideshow
  • off navigation menu is turned off.
Display Time: In seconds for each image in the slideshow.
Transition Time: How long (in seconds) is the transition time between each image.
Open Viewer on click: If a user clicks on an image being displayed in the slideshow, should an image viewer be opened? If yes, check this option.
Background Color: Let’s you pick a color to insert into the parts of the slideshow not filled with the image you view or the navigation menu.
Transition:
  • default, transitions between images (how one image blend or scale into the next image) is determined by the setup of the eRez server and the next four options are disabled.
  • Ken Burns Effect: pan and zoom images slowly with the effect that the slideshow looks more dynamic - like a movie clip
  • none, means that there will be no transitions between images in the slideshow.
  • custom, means that you can customize the fly in, rotation, alpha blend and scale transition options in your slideshow
Custom Fly in: How should one image enter the slideshow after the previous one? In the Custom Fly in transition "Top-Left" option, one image flies in from the top-left corner of the slideshow and proceeds to grow towards the Bottom-Right corner as the previous image shrinks. The options are:
  • none– that is no transitions where an image flies in or depending on the other custom setting – expands from the center.
  • Top-Left
  • Top-Center
  • Top-Right
  • Center-Left
  • Center-Right
  • Bottom-Left
  • Bottom-Center
  • Bottom-Right

Custom Rotation: You can also make the transition from one image to another rotate clockwise or counter clockwise. If the image flies in it will rotate if custom rotates is set to clockwise or counter clockwise. If custom fly in is set to none custom rotate will make the image twists from the center clockwise or counter clockwise.

Custom Alpha Blend: If checked, the transition will also blend one image into the next image. This means that the first image will fade as the next image sharpens.

Custom Scale: If checked, the next image in the slideshow zooms out from the "fly in"-position.

Use the "Preview" to see how your slideshow will look like.
When you are done customizing your slideshow, you can use the "Update HTML code" to update the generated HTML code. You can then paste it into your HTML document.
Use the "Default Values" to reset customization of your slideshow and generated HTML code.

Publishing Format Options

Target Document Type:
Choose the document type of the web document you want to add the Flash Slideshow code to. Usually this should be "HTML 4.0".
Flash Detection:
You can publish the Flash Slideshow including or without Flash detection.
In case you choose publishing without Flash detection, users with an outdated version or without any Flash plug-in setup on their systems will not be prompted to download Adobe Flash plug-in.

ActiveX Activation in Internet Explorer

In addition to detecting the user's Flash plug-in version, checking this option works around the "ActiveX Activation issue". In Microsoft Internet Explorer all ActiveX plug-ins (including Flash) have a grey border at startup and need to be activated (clicked at) before the user is able to interact with the plug-in. Selecting "Flash Detections" works around that by embedding Flash Slideshow code dynamically using JavaScript.
Wrap in (X)HTML:
Choose wether to generate the entire (X)HTML document or code for the Flash Slideshow only. Check this option if you want to create a new document showing the Slideshow. Uncheck this option if you want to add the Slideshow to an existing document.

Edit Image Information

Edit File. In addition to the actual image data in the form of pixels, an image file can also contain Meta data. Meta data means "data about the data" and can either be technical data such as information about the equipment and settings used to capture the image or information about the subject, status and intellectual rights.
eRez allows you to add or edit embedded Meta data in the form of IPTC data as well as change the name of the file itself.
As a guide when editing or adding Meta data eRez will also display the information that you can not edit such as the technical information from a digital camera. You can edit all fields with a non-gray color:

File

File: You can edit the file name.
Path: If you click on the Path you can move the file to another folder or sub-folder. Please see below.

Orientation

Sometimes an image needs to be "rotated". The photographer who took the picture originally, might have rotated his camera to take a picture in "portrait" format, not the usual "landscape" orientation of cameras. Click on the orientation suitable for rotating the image to suit you.

IPTC

The IPTC ( International Press Telecommunications Council ) has developed a standard to promote interchange of news data. eRez allows you to add or modify the following IPTC data:
Title:  Used as a shorthand reference for the image. Examples: "Wall St." "Ferry Sinks"
Author:  (By-line): Contains name of the creator of the image, e.g. photographer or graphic artist.
Author's Position: (By-line title): the title of the creator or creators of the image.
Caption: A textual description of the image.
Caption Writer: Identification of the name of the person involved in the writing, editing or correcting the caption.
Copyright Notice: Contains any necessary copyright notice.
Keywords: Used to indicate specific information retrieval words. Each keyword is separated by a line break.
Category: A 3 digit number as defined by the IPTC organization.
Supplemental Categories:  Supplemental categories further refine the subject of an image. Each category is separated by a line break.
Date Created:  In the form CCYYMMDD (CC=Century, YY=Year, MM=Month and DD=Date). eRez will automatically fill out this field if EXIF data exists and contains the date. Example: "19890317" indicates 17 March 1989.
Time Created:  In the form HHMMSS±HHMM (HH=Hours, MM=Minutes, SS=Seconds). eRez will automatically fill out this field if EXIF data exists and contains the time. Example: "090000-0500" indicates 0900 in New York (five hours behind UTC). UTC is an acronym for “Coordinated Universal Time”.
City:  Identifies city of image origin according to guidelines established by the provider.
State/Province:  Identifies state/province of image origin according to guidelines established by the provider.
Country: Identifies country/primary location of image origin according to guidelines established by the provider. Examples: "USA" (United States), "FRA" (France), "XUN" (United Nations)
Credit: Identifies the provider of the image, not necessarily the owner/creator.
Source: Identifies the original owner of the intellectual content of the object data. This could be an agency, a member of an agency or an individual.
Headline: A publishable entry providing a synopsis of the contents of the image. Example: "Lindbergh Lands In Paris".
Instructions: Other editorial instructions concerning the use of the image, such as embargoes and warnings.
Transmission Reference: A code representing the location of original transmission according to practices of the provider.
Urgency: Specifies the editorial urgency of content. '1' is most urgent, '5' normal and '8' denotes the least-urgent.
Custom Field 01  ... Custom Field 20 : Your eRez Server Manager can define labels for up to 20 custom fields. If he or she has not done that you will see the fields as “Custom Field XX”.
Special ID's:Job ID , Master Document ID , Short Document ID , Uniqueue Job ID , Owner ID are included for compatibility with FotoStation. Please refer to FotoStation documentation for further information on these ID’s.

3D Settings

This is a fantastic tool. 3D settings will let you "3D-alize" your image!
Please notice - it requires a separately licensed FSI Viewer to be installed on the eRez server.
In the image to the left you will see 12 smaller images of a laptop PC. This is an example of an image uploaded to an eRez server which can be transformed into a presentation of an image consisting of multiple images. The eRez Server can make a presentation that shows only one of these smaller images at a time. With the FSI viewer you can twist and turn the laptop PC and thus see it from different angles. Each angle consists of one of the smaller images (called a tile).
In this example we have 3 horizontal tiles and 4 vertical tiles.
When you are editing an image, 3D settings lets you specify how many tiles it consists of.
Horizontal Tiles: How many tiles or "smaller images" should the image be divided into horizontally.
Vertical Tiles: How many tiles or "smaller images" should the image be divided into vertically.
Scene Sets: Here you can specify optional scene sets. A Scene Set describes a sequence of individual images. Scene sets defines the order of scenes to be displayed. The default is a single scene set containing all scenes (image tiles) from scene 1 to the last scene image (left to right, top to bottom). Scenes within the sets are separated with "," (comma) and specify the 1-based index of the image from left to right, top to bottom up to the total number of scenes (TilesX x TilesY). If the Horizontal Tiles or Vertical Tiles parameters are defined for a source image, but no scene set is defined, a scene set containing all the scenes from left to right, top to bottom will be created by default.
For further information please see the FSI Documentation .

FSI Viewer

FSI Viewer Extra When you upload a PDF file, each page can be rendered and made into a TIFF file. If enabled eRez will extract hyperlink information, as well as other special FSI Pages related information and insert it in the " FSI Viewer Extra " field.

Move File

You can move a file to a new location by clicking on the name of the path.

File:
File Name:
Path: Samples/Other documents
File Size: 7.84 MB (8223257 bytes)
Last Modified: Wed Oct 17 16:44:47 CEST 2007
This will bring up a new page with a list of target folders. Click on a folder to complete the move.

E-mail Image

Email File  When you e-mail an image to someone you actually send them an e-mail with a link to the image. In this example MyName@MySite.com is sending a link to Lake.tif to FriendsName@FriendsSite.com. The e-mail will contain the message and an embedded hyperlink to the image on the eRez server. The e-mail will be sent in html format, and if the receivers e-mail reader is able to and set up to display html e-mails, the reader will be able to view a copy of the image as well.

Download selection

Download Selected Files  If you have selected one or more files, they will be in your selection. You can then download your selections according to the same specifications. This means that depending on your specified download options, the selected files will all be downloaded in the same format, with the same width, height etc.

Advanced Options Download Originals

3 files selected for download.
Small (800x600) JPEG PDF
Medium (1024x768) JPEG PDF
Large (1400x1050) JPEG PDF
A5 Colour JPEG PDF
A5 Black & White JPEG PDF
A4 Colour JPEG PDF
A4 Black & White JPEG PDF
A5 Offset EPS PDF JPEG TIFF
A4 Offset EPS PDF JPEG TIFF
10x15 cm Photo Paper JPEG TIFF
15x20 cm Photo Paper JPEG TIFF
20x30 cm Photo Paper JPEG TIFF

You may now decide to download your three selected files in the same desktop presentation i.e. “Small (800x600)”, with the same desktop printing resolution or the same professional printing high resolution. Remember that the resolution you choose will be applied to all your three selected files.
You can also choose to download your file selection as originals - that is using the “Download Originals” option.
You can also choose to use the “Advanced Options”, which applies the same advanced options to all files in your selection:

The same options are available to you as when you use the advanced options for a single file, but what you don’t see is an image from which you view your crop specifications.
For more information on individual options, please see the Download Image section.

Edit selections

Edit Selected Files To edit the same information for all your selected files, click on the “Edit” icon in the navigation bar. This is a very powerful feature, as you can apply the same rotation of the images selected, give them the same title, the same keywords etc. However, please be careful with this option – you apply the same information to all the files in your selection!

In the example below we give three files the same title: “Copenhagen by night”:
3 files selected for editing.

Orientation:
Rotate :

IPTC:
Title :
Copenhagen by night
Author :
Author's Position :
The “author” field as well as the other single item fields, can only contain one value, so when we click on the “Update 3 Files” button at the bottom of the frame, the Author field is set with the “Copenhagen by night” value, even though we haven checked the “Replace Existing IPTC data” checkbox:
Replace Existing IPTC data

However, for fields such as “Keywords” we have an option of adding to a list (i.e. the keyword list) if we leave the “Replace Existing IPTC data” unchecked. If you want to overwrite information in all fields you should check it, otherwise leave it unchecked, but notice that some fields are overwritten anyway.
If a field is left blank it means “keep existing data in that field for all the selected fields”. If you check “Replace Existing IPTC data”, fields left blank will be made blank in all selected files.

Email selections

Email Selected Files You can email a selection of files to someone. This is a very powerful feature, as it let’s you collect specific files across an eRez server and saves the selection for later retrieval. The receiver of your message will get the message you type here, and at the bottom of the email a link that says “Open Selection”. When he or she click on the “Open Selection” link, the eRez server retrieves your selection, as the selection is saved as a query with a specific name on the eRez server.

The name of the selection saved as a query on the eRez server can be retrieved when the receiver calls the link in the messages and opens it in a web browser. To retrieve the query name, the receiver can click on the “Publish to Web” in the navigation bar. The name in this example is "~ff42643fe4b3ae749c3c604ae6dcd93e". If you insert this name in the Quick Search frame, you can search for this specific selection once more.

Delete selections

Delete Selected Files You can also delete all the files in a selection, by clicking on the “Delete” icon. This is a very powerful feature if you want to do housecleaning across different folders on the eRez server, in order to delete specific files. In the example below, two files have been selected for deletion:
